The Futura typeface has been employed by two of the most popular automobile companies in the world — Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen. While both auto manufacturers are German, they have wildly different brands. Mercedes Benz is associated with luxury and precision, while Volkswagen has long been viewed as an alternative to a luxury car; reliable but affordable, with a bit of counter-culture clout.
Yet, both brands used Futura because the typeface is wildly versatile. The entertainment industry adores Futura. You may have also seen it gracing the title cards and posters for American Beauty, Gravity, Interstellar , and V for Vendetta , to name a few.
Serifs are those cute little hats and shoes you see on letters in typefaces such as Times New Roman, Georgia, Garamond, Caslon, etc. Those little delicate lines often help the reader to pull through the end of a word or sentence, like a little string.
In other words, it features clean and precise proportions, rather than imitating organic script or handwriting. Futura is also an extremely symmetrical typeface. Low-contrast strokes. High contrast typefaces mimic the naturally dramatic variation in stroke width that are the result of writing with a quill or pen and ink. There are some undeniably beautiful high-contrast fonts, but they are often difficult to read, especially in smaller font sizes.

Futura is distinctive for its long ascenders and almost classical Roman capitals — these elements give it its stylish elegance and differentiate it from other geometric san-serifs.
Futura can be used as a display and paragraph font and is seen in many notable and historic projects. Stanley Kubrick said Futura was his favorite typeface of all time and used it for A Space Odyssey.
